This is a Voice/Data engineering position in support of the Department of State (DoS) Vanguard Program, Service Management Office (SMO), Voice Service Line (VSL) TWD O&M operations. Voice/Data Engineer performs duties in support the Department of State operations to document equipment infrastructure, train other personnel to update records, perform quality control checks, and perform special projects to support DOS sponsored conference/events.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs site surveys for all State Annexes for equipment records to include riser cables, House cables, local House cables and any connecting devices.
- Creates infrastructure for Cable Management System (CMS), puts data from above survey into Telecommunications Management System to include cable names, connectivity devices, cable pair ranges.
- Trains others on inputting Connectivity Records (voice) into Netplus.
- Does quality checks in Netplus to ensure connectivity (voice) is being input and that inputs are correct.
- Performs site surveys at all State Annexes to include all types of telecommunications equipment, PBXs, cable infrastructure, location of sites, and general information about Annexes. Keeps and updates site records so they are available to project managers and technicians.
- Develops procedures for a labeling scheme to track all data equipment in CERs & wire closets for Netplus. This includes all Cat 5 cables, Patch Cords, Fiber, Fiber Patch Panels, Data switches and labeling of jacks at the desktop.
- Performs quality checks in CERs/wire closets to ensure the data equipment is being labeled and that it is labeled correctly.
- Keeps and updates the labeling format (voice & data), making it available to all PMs and techs on a spreadsheet.
Skills / Attributes Required
- Familiarity with cabling and wiring techniques and practices employed in large office type buildings.
- Knowledge of the Department of State Voice/Data infrastructure.
- The ability to resolve complex issues
- Customer facing experience
- Experience and knowledge of NetPlus
- Proficient with MS Office especially Microsoft Excel, and Word.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Strong Analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to multi task in a high paced environment.
- Demonstrates strong work, business and professional ethics
Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school education or equivalent and 2+ years of technical training and 4+ years of experience with voice and data telecommunications.
