Job Description:
The MCS Server team provides exceptional customer service to a workforce that utilizes MCS server resources. This is a dynamic position that designs, builds, integrates and supports servers in a complex, clustered environment running SQL Server. The position will support the SQL Server database administrators to install and support SQL Server throughout the full lifecycle process from installation, patching, troubleshooting and upgrading. Servers are running primarily on Windows 2003/2008 Server operating systems. Position will primarily support the operating system and hardware through the entire lifecycle from planning and design through implementation, support and upgrade/replacement planning. Servers are hosted on a mixture of physical hardware and virtual technologies and have both clustered and standalone. Members of this team must be able to multitask and work on project related work as well as daily operational activities and complex issue follow up. The technologist will be responsible for the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operations and maintenance of systems hardware and software for Windows and VMware servers.
Required:
- This job will require lifting of up to 50 lbs. Equipment lifting devices are available for heavier components.
- Experience with installation, configuration and maintaining Windows 2003 and 2008 Server Operating Systems on a variety of physical and virtual hardware
- Experience installing SQL Server on both clustered and not clustered Windows servers.
- Experience troubleshooting systems running Windows server and SQL Server
- Experience maintaining Active Directory topology and configuring Group Policy Object management
- Experience with Windows Cluster Service and supporting Windows clusters on both physical and VMWare environments.
- Experience installing and integrating various applications
- Experience using scripting tools such as PowerShell and other tools to support systems activities such as backup, restore, file transfer and other similar support activities
- Restore data and re-configure systems when required
- Detect, identify and troubleshoot system software and hardware problems
- Experience with VMware ESXi 5.0 virtualization infrastructure and the following activities
- Assist with day to day operations of the virtual infrastructure
- Maintain documentation of the virtual infrastructure
- Assist with deployment of all virtual machines
- Schedule performance of server maintenance actions during non-duty hours
- Analyzes system faults, troubleshoots, and runs diagnostic tests on operating systems and hardware to detect problems
- Evaluates and installs developed software during various phases of testing
Desired experience doing the following activities:
- Evaluate systems and ensure security requirements are met
- Determine methods for mitigating Information Assurance Vulnerability
- Define and execute ongoing administration and maintenance plans, procedures, and operations
- Proactively address network, storage, or system performance issues
- Assist with Capacity Planning
- Test new VMware products
Clearance Level:
An active DOE clearance or DOD TS clearance will be required due to the work required on classified systems.
Qualifications
:
Bachelor's degree in related field and 4+ years of related experience. An additional 4 years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
