Solaris System Administrator (Job Number:401372)
Description:
The Solaris System Administrator’s responsibilities will include installation, implementation, operations, and maintenance of hardware and software associated with servers, Local Area Networks (LAN’s), Wide Area Networks (WAN’s) and associated communications. This will include Windows 2003 and 2008 servers, Unit/Linux-based servers, server application software, security application software, NIMSOFT monitoring software, NetBackup application software, REMEDY application software, Domain Naming System (DNS), SQL/Oracle database, SOLARIS operating system and storage backup hardware. The candidate will assist users in the resolution of problems encountered in the operation of hardware and software, documenting problems as they are resolved, work in conjunction with technical writer(s) to create and maintain technical and procedural documentation, monitor the performance, security, and integrity of existing Oracle and SQL databases, perform SAN management on NetAPP and HP SAN hardware and Brocade SAN communication equipment, support VMWare server virtualization environment, monitor the backup activities of all server clients, record work activities within the REMEDY ticketing system, support 600 PC’s in a classroom/training environment, and support workstation/laptop imaging.
Qualifications

Required Skills:
- Must be familiar with most basic system administration tools and tasks.
- Able to cleanly boot and shutdown systems, add/remove user accounts, perform ‘fsck’ and maintain system database files (groups, hosts, aliases, etc.).
- Working knowledge of Red Hat Linux is required.
- Hands-on experience with Sun SOLARIS operating system.
- Possess strong database administration skills associated with SQL and ORACLE databases.
- Ability to write user guides, systems development documentation, operations documentation, process workflows, ISO 9000 documentation, disaster recovery/continuity/contingency planning.
- Ability to open/update/close REMEDY help desk tickets.
- Have strong human relations skills associated with technical involvement of the user community.
- Must demonstrate good communication skills.
Desired Skills:
- Ability to understand paging and swapping, interprocess communication, devices and device drivers, performing system analysis and tuning, and the
- Ability to program in several administrative languages (shell, Perl, Tlc); port C programs from one platform to another; solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environments, understand the principals of routing, client/server programming, and design of consistent network-wide file systems.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or other related discipline is required OR 4 years of additional experience is equivalent to a Bachelor's degree.
- 5+ years of experience providing or supporting installation, maintenance, and administration of system software in either a mainframe, client-server, and/or web-based environment as described in the task (e.g., system administration of UNIX systems, Microsoft Windows, web servers, etc.).
