SAIC has contingent openings for science-related positions. These positions will become part of a team of professionals supporting the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC). These positions will be located in Houston, TX.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Science positions include scientists, science assistants, science technicians, science coordinators, etc. positions supporting NASA’s HHPC. These positions will be responsible for supporting a wide range of discipline-specific research efforts. Successful candidates will demonstrate understanding and ability to follow research processes and protocols and interfacing with both engineering and flight operational teams to ensure the success of the research. Research tasks include the whole range of basic, applied, and operational research both on the ground and in flight. These positions are responsible for work assigned and for completing requirements in compliance with NASA standards, scientific and research best practices, and SAIC processes and procedures.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Degree requirements vary from a minimum BS degree in biological field or related discipline to a PhD in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: Positions require varying levels of experience and publication history in the science field. Experience requirements vary from one year of science research assistance experience (i.e., science technician) to five years of experience conducting independent research (i.e., senior scientist). In addition, the scientist positions require a recent publication history. Examples of the diverse scientific expertise required (depending on the specific position) include: radiation health, neuromuscular physiology, immunology, bone physiology, environmental science, cell biology, toxicology, organic and inorganic chemistry, epidemiology, exercise physiology, nutrition, food chemistry, human factors, biomechanics, etc. Experience adhering to all Committee on the Protection of Human Subjects (CPHS) ethical guidelines is required.
The contract these positions support requires successful completion of a NASA background verification per NASA Procedural Requirement (NPR) 1600.1, Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Policy and Procedures, in addition to SAIC’s standard background verification process.
