SAIC is seeking to fill a System Safety Engineer position that will support one or more projects onsite at the U.S. Army Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.
Job Description: The System Safety Engineer performs a variety of system safety tasks and analyses, either independently or under supervision. The System Safety engineer attends regular meetings of project teams and prepares, reviews, and updates a number of safety-related documents required for the projects. Projects supported by the System Safety Engineer may require use of traditional system safety techniques, as well as more specialized software safety assurance methodologies. Principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Establishes and implements system safety programs - Identifies or establishes system safety requirements and ensures compliance to those requirements - Conducts and documents the analysis of systems in accordance with MIL-STD 882 or other standards - Works with System Engineers to ensure safety hazards are identified, safety risks are properly assessed, hazard control strategies are included in the design of hardware and/or software to eliminate or minimize risks, and any residual risks are accepted by designated authorities. - Interacts with external Safety organizations such as the end customer's Safety office, the Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) Safety Office and its Software System Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP), and the Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC), to obtain approvals, endorsements, safety releases, and safety confirmations, as required. - Participates as a member of System Safety Working Groups (SSWGs) - Works on a team with other safety engineers and interacts daily with team members and customers regarding weapons and combat system safety issues.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: - BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Software Development, Systems Engineering, or other scientific field with at least 5 years of relevant work experience related to the safe design and operation of DoD systems - System safety documentation experience
Desired Qualifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant and accredited professional certification Software safety assurance experience Critical competencies: Customer Focus, Drive for Results, Technical Skills, Interpersonal Savvy, Commitment to Continuous Improvement, Effective Teamwork, Ability to Prioritize and Work Effectively on Multiple Simultaneous Projects
