SAIC has an opening for a LAN/Network Specialist located in Dahlgren, VA.

The LAN/Network Specialist is responsible for assisting with planning, analysis, testing, configuration, installation, maintenance and applying information assurance policy for standalone local area networks (LAN) in a Navy training environment.

Employee installs and maintains standalone LAN and associated computer hardware and software.

The employee will perform duties such as those listed in the DOD 8570.01-M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program Manual.

The Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II must have both an IAT security certification and one or more Operating System or Computing Environment (OS/CE) certification(s), based on duties assigned.

The employee shall have at least 3 years’ experience in IA technology or a related area.

This position provides network environment (NE) and advanced level CE support.

They shall note incidences of network intrusion detection, find and fix unprotected vulnerabilities, and ensure that remote access points are well-secured.

This position will focus on threats and vulnerabilities to improve the system network security.

The employee coordinates with the Aegis Training and Readiness Center (ATRC) Information Technology Manager (ITM) for the evaluation of training system networking needs and recommends improvements and modifications to existing infrastructure.

The employee diagnoses and resolves complex LAN issues.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION: High School diploma required. BS degree in a computer-related, engineering, or scientific field and 2+ years related experience. Will consider additional years of experience in lieu of Bachelors degree.

REQUIRED SKILLS: Have strong knowledge and skills in applying:
- IT security principles and methods;
- Requirements for certification and accreditation;
- Systems testing and evaluation
- Network operations, management, and maintenance methods and concepts;
- Network architecture principles and concepts;
- Network optimization techniques; and
- Analytical reasoning

REQUIRED IT CERTIFICATIONS:
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or equivalent and
- Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) Security+ or
- GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) or
- System Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) Candidate must be able to lift heavy equipment up to 30 pounds, work on ladders, be able to pull cable in the overhead, and perform other physical duties associated with LAN installations.

DESIRED SKILLS:
- Strong knowledge of LAN architecture (MS Windows Server 2008)
- Strong knowledge of computers, operating systems (MS Windows 7) and related technologies
- Strong knowledge of VMWare® EXSi, Retina Network Security Scanner, PHP HTML, and Windows Deployment Service (WDS)
- Strong knowledge of Navy infrastructure requirements and LAN components
- Considerable knowledge of LAN protocols and diagnostic tools
- Knowledge of the DOD Information Assurance Policies
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technology users ILLUSTRATIVE

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Installs training LAN including network servers, hubs, routers, workstations, printers, and/or other peripheral devices.
- Maintains training LAN; tracks significant problems, monitors performance, and performs upgrades to hardware and software as required.
- Maintains training web pages
- Participates in long- and short-range technology planning.
- Trains instructional staff to follow proper procedures necessary to operate the training LAN.
- Develops and maintains documentation regarding training network installation, configuration and accreditation, operating procedures, and service records relating to network hardware and software.

Must be a US Citizen.

Must have an active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
