Cable Winding Technician (Job Number:400791)

JOB DESCRIPTION: Candidate will be providing on site (SSC-Bayside) support in the winding of manufactured small diameter fiber optic cable onto spools packs that are used for undersea acoustic sensor communications.
Candidate will be responsible for the setup, maintenance, and operation of precision cable winding equipment, and the associated instrumentation.
Candidate will operate specialized diagnostic equipment (OTDR) needed to assess the integrity and quality of final cable, ability to support both testing on shore and at sea.
Candidate will also support assembly and fabrication of underwater acoustic arrays. Work involves the electronic assembly of acoustic sensor boards utilizing surface mount and through-hole components on multi-layer Printed Circuit Boards. Multiple acoustic sensor boards will be connected together with either cable or fiber optics. Acoustic Sensors will be encapsulated utilizing polyurethanes.
REQUIRED SKILLS: At least one year of specialized experience with Fiber-optic cable to include handling and testing. Experience utilizing cabling winding equipment is a plus. Experience in mixing, preparing and applying 2-part urethanes and epoxies.
Attention to detail. Be able to work from verbal instructions.
General computer skills. Mechanical aptitude. Manual dexterity.
Handling of various chemicals and work within defined safety procedures on handling of the same. Knowledge and safe work experience on various equipment including, Soldering stations, General lab and basic electronics test equipment (multi-meter, power supply, etc).
DESIRED SKILLS: Fiber Optic cable fabrication, splicing. Circuit Board assembly and fabrication using techniques and equipment associated with Micro/Miniature components (Surface Mount). Ability to read electronic diagrams and schematics and assemble/build from them. Component level troubleshooting, test and repair of circuit cards.
Techniques of water blocking/sealing of various electrical components (willingness to learn). Inventory control of electronic components. Ability to support many customers.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION: At a minimum, HS diploma. Prefer an Associates or Technical School degree in electronics or electro mechanics (or related field) and 3 years of experience
SECURITY CLEARANCE: Secret security clearance is desired, but candidate needs to be eligible to obtain and hold a secret clearance.
